Highest-rated Hoof Trimming Components
What is the Electric Hoof Knife used for?
The Electric Hoof Knife is designed for use when performing corrective trimming and for doing a minimum amount of maintenance trimming. Its patented chainsaw disc is designed to do a multitude of tasks, including trimming around sole abscesses and hairy tack, preparing both hooves and blocks for application, and cleaning out sole ulcers.
Who can use Electric Hoof Knife?
The Electric Hoof Knife is designed for anyone who trims or wants to trim cow hooves. This includes professional hoof trimmers, herdsmen, dairymen, and veterinarians.
How do I know if I can trim with the Electric Hoof Knife?
If you’re currently trimming with or know how to trim with traditional tools and are comfortable around power tools then you shouldn’t have any problem using the Electric Hoof Knife.
How safe is the Electric Hoof Knife?
The Electric Hoof Knife is a safe tool when you follow the instructions and how-to tips. Our one caveat is that, if you remove the safety guard and run the tool, it is NOT safe. The chainsaw discs were designed to cut with the teeth on the bottom and exposed left side of the disc. Removing the safety guard exposes the top half of the chainsaw teeth to the fingers when held in the preferred position. Therefore, NEVER REMOVE THE SAFETY GUARD DURING OPERATION.
How long has the Electric Hoof Knife been on the market?
Our tool was first introduced in 2005. The Electric Hoof Knife was specifically designed for the hoof trimming industry, taking into account customer feedback and using only the highest-rated components throughout. The tool is assembled here in Tallahassee, FL, so we have complete control over the quality of the Electric Hoof Knife from start to finish. We really work hard to offer our customers the best and most effective trimming power tool on the market.
Does the Electric Hoof Knife have to be plugged in or does it have a battery?
The Electric Hoof Knife runs off electricity so you have to have it plugged in. You can plug it into a grounded electrical outlet or run it off a generator.
Can trimming with the Electric Hoof Knife lead to better hoof health?
Yes! Our customers tell us that, because it is so easy to trim using the Electric Hoof Knife, they find themselves getting backing to a regular 5-6 week trimming schedule. This makes their horse’s hooves stronger and healthier, as everyone knows frequent trims are best for your horse.
Does this tool require learning a new trimming technique?
The only thing that we recommend you do differently when trimming with the Electric Hoof Knife is to tie up the horse’s tail. You don’t want to risk the chance of getting the tail caught in the Electric Hoof Knife when you’re working on the rear feet. Everything else in the trimming procedure stays the same.
Safety for You and Your Animal
We understand that a lot of people initially have concerns when they hear the words “electric” and “chainsaw disc” put together. But we want to assure you that the Electric Hoof Knife is completely safe when you follow our clear operating instructions. All of our discs have distinct patented safety features designed to keep you and the animal you are working on protected and safe. Below are some of the highlights of the Electric Hoof Knife’s and Hoof Boss’ safety features.
We have never had a disc or chain break during trimming and we have never had a single disc sent back to us because of a manufacturing defect. Unlike a typical chainsaw, the tungsten carbide chainsaw disc is designed so that the chain cannot fly off of the disc during operation. Our discs are also designed to never heat so they maintain low temperatures during trimming, extending the life of the blade and protecting the animal’s hoof.
